Mott Products Help with Advances in Clean Energy

FARMINGTON, CT (January, 2018) – NREL engineers have been working with Mott porous metal as a support in a module that separates hydrogen from a process gas stream.  The porous metal is used as a support which is wrapped with a very thin precious metal alloy membrane.  Installation into a test unit is scheduled for early 2018.  At the end of the day, the goal of this project is to increase the solar to electricity conversion efficiency for utility-scale solar power plants.

Why is this important?

The generation of electricity from solar energy is significantly safer to the environment and workers than production of electricity from coal, natural gas, and nuclear fission.  Utility-scale solar power plants do not produce toxic emissions like mercury, smog-forming chemicals, particle matter, or greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, NOX and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
