Porous products are used to vent gases during the injection molding manufacturing process protecting product from defects. Mott porous products have been used in mold vent applications by many plastic, rubber and metal molders for over 60 years. By venting molds, manufacturers avoid the adverse effects of entrapped or evolved gases caused by heated air in the mold, steam generation from water in binders, and combustion from binders and coatings.

Porous designs enable smooth transport of sensitive materials for high yield production processes. As processes become more automated or reach high volumes, sensitive materials must often be transported throughout the production process.  Small scratches or damage to surfaces can lead to defective products and reduced process yield.

Manufacturing and process engineers often need integrated filtration directly into piping and hardware.  Mott’s customizable in-line piping filters and integrated filter components can fit virtually any pipe and fitting application for your process or aftermarket product.  Our application engineering team will provide qualified ratings to any specifications, available in any material – from standard 316L stainless steel options to exotic alloys.  Our additive manufacturing capability can also print hardware or piping with the integrated porous filter or flow control component inside.

Mott specializes in designing valves, regulators, and flow control assemblies with integrated filtration and flow to ensure proper operation over the life of the product. Porous valve seats can be impregnated with oil for smooth operation, or flow controllers can use porous metal laminar flow effects to reduce chatter.
